THE HISTORY OF ESCAPE ROOMS

Though there were earlier video game versions, the very first physical escape game debuted at GenCon in Indianapolis, Indiana way back in 2003. As part of a conference, it was, of course, a temporary game. The first full-time escape room arrived in 2007 in Kyoto, Japan, and the trend did not make it back to the states until 2012.

Trapped In Talkeetna was Alaska’s first escape room, established in 2016. Anchorage was not far behind, as ESCAPE! Alaska began designing our first game in 2017, finally bringing Theme-Park-Quality Escape Rooms® to the Last Frontier in February 2019.

Earlier escape rooms were low tech and lock heavy, but today’s most loved rooms put you inside beautifully designed high tech sets with higher production quality, like you’ll find at ESCAPE! Alaska.

Still a relatively new industry at just ten years old, the games continue to evolve as designers create new, more exciting ways to thrill and surprise guests.
